As part of this blog I want to include some recommendations for excellent food and drink because well, everyone who knows me knows that I love to both eat and drink! For the most part, these will be in the south coast of England where I’m based but I’m sure I will also be covering London establishments and further afield.
So, kicking off this series with the wonderful The Jetty at Christchurch Harbour Hotel and Spa. The hotel itself is lovely (and fabulous for a Christmas stay!) but on this occasion I was visiting the Jetty with my mother to celebrate her birthday. It’s perfectly located in the grounds of the hotel – just across a lovely decking area (that currently seems sponsored by Moet!)
We enjoyed a glass of champagne and some unexpected September sun before heading into the restaurant itself. We decided to have the set Lunch and Seasonal Produce Menu which was excellent value at £22.95 for three courses. I started with ‘Alex’s Twice Baked Creamy Cheese Soufflé’ (so named for The Jetty Chef Patron Alex Aitken) which was pretty close to souffle perfection (and I’m a tough souffle critic!). I followed with the Pork Tenderloin, Apple Puree, Black Pudding Hash and Heritage Carrots served with Thyme Jus and finished up with a Chocolate and Black Cherry Marquise with Cherry Sorbet, which was mouthwateringly good.
I’d definitely recommend The Jetty if you are in the area for lunch – it’s the second time I’ve eaten here and both the food and service has been excellent on both occasions. It’s also got wonderful views of Christchurch harbour, especially if you visit for lunch.
